So Much Closer Project
Who We Are
So Much Closer is a contemporary dance project created by Sway Creative Collective, a Denver-based group of artists who believe that the arts can help people see one another, and themselves, with greater attention, curiosity, and compassion.
Working across dance, music, visual art, film, and community engagement, we create performances that invite people to pause, reflect, and reconnect with what makes us human. Our work explores timeless questions about meaning, belonging, courage, wonder, and the relationships that allow individuals and communities to flourish.
What We Do
At the heart of So Much Closer is the belief that contemporary dance is uniquely suited to this work because it communicates through the body. Movement makes visible the trust, attention, vulnerability, and shared humanity that sustain our relationships in ways words alone cannot. Through choreography, original music, spoken reflections, visual art, and audience participation, each performance becomes something to experience together.
The project brings free performances to places where people learn, heal, and build community, including colleges and community organizations, while also presenting a public performance in Denver's arts district. Each performance concludes with a shared act of reflection, allowing audiences to contribute their own voices to A Denver Archive of Human Flourishing, an evolving collection of anonymous reflections on what it means to live a meaningful life.
A Denver Archive of Human Flourishing
What helps you live a meaningful life?
At the conclusion of every performance, audience members are invited to answer a single question about attention, connection, hope, courage, love, or what it means to flourish. These handwritten reflections become part of A Denver Archive of Human Flourishing, a growing collection of voices from across Colorado that celebrates the wisdom already present within our communities.
The archive is grounded in a simple belief: the future has an ancient heart. The qualities we will need most to meet tomorrow's challenges—attention, empathy, generosity, imagination, courage, and human connection—are not new discoveries waiting to be invented. They are enduring capacities that have always lived within us.
Rather than asking experts to define what it means to live well, the archive turns to children, students, artists, patients, families, healthcare workers, and people from every walk of life. It preserves the lived experiences and quiet wisdom of ordinary people, recognizing that the answers to our most important questions are often already present within our communities.
Over time, the archive will continue to grow as new performances take place across Colorado. Together, these reflections form a living portrait of what people value, what gives them hope, and what they believe is worth carrying into the future. We hope it becomes not only a record of this project, but a reminder that human flourishing begins by paying attention to one another, to our communities, and to the life already unfolding around us.
